Interview With The Organic Place Founder

We had the pleasure of interviewing one of our lovely clients, Brooke Findley Founder at The Organic Place, recently to hear how she made a business around helping people to live a healthier life.

Tell us the story of why you got started in your business

We started our business almost three years ago after discovering our youngest child had sever food allergies. We always ate healthy and with a background in nursing I understood the relationship between food and dietary related diseases. With a diagnosis of allergies to beef, chicken, eggs and peanuts it had me questioning the food system and what was happening to our food before it got to our family kitchen table. After some research, I decided to try and eat organic where possible for the health of our family. I soon realized I was in an area of Melbourne that had poor access to an organic diet. I saw an opportunity here to be able to help other families out there eat organically if they choose to.


How did you get your first clients?

I built this business in my lounge room at various times during the night whilst feeding our littlest. I started taking note of what other mums were doing and to no surprise, they were always on their phones checking their emails and social media accounts. I knew this would be a great place for me to start finding our customers. It was free and I could do it from home with a young family. I also did a few letterbox drops and placed flyers up around the towns we were planning on delivering to.


What has been the biggest challenge to getting clients?

For us it’s been getting them to know we exist and then for them to trust us to ensure they have the highest quality of fruit and vegetable delivered to their door each week and to trust that our fruit and veg is certified organic.


How did you market yourself in the early stages of your business?

In the beginning, I had no plan. I just did what worked at the time. In my case, it was social media. I targeted other mums in the same situation as myself because I knew they too needed help in providing healthy choices for their children.


How has your marketing changed over time?

Now I have a plan that sees our customer base grow with returning customers. I have learnt how to make things simple for our customers and how I can help them.


 What's the greatest piece of marketing advice you have been given?

Tell your story!


What is the vision for your business in the future?

I have big plans! Franchising perhaps! 


What advice would you give to anyone wanting to start a B2C business today?

Learn your customer, listen to them, talk to them, ask them questions.
