Sam running the Data-Driven Marketing Workshop at Hub Southern Cross
Marketing Entourage has been selected by the Daniel Andrews State Government startup agency, LaunchVic, as one of the 16 service providers to run an education program to support the startup ecosystem in Victoria.
This initiative will support up to 2000 startup founders and their staff to establish, grow or scale their startups enabling more innovative businesses, attracting international talent, bringing money into the local economy and creating local jobs.
Sam Hurley and Phil Ore, Co-founders of Marketing Entourage, started their marketing consultancy three years ago on the premise that they wanted to change the way people thought about marketing and help purpose driven businesses succeed. In their three years they have focused on helping innovative startups, social enterprises, NFPs, and government to become more human-centred and create amazing customer experiences that build brand loyalty and community engagement.
Sam, with over 18 years of senior management experience in sales and marketing in the design, media and publishing industries has purported the necessity for modern brands to consider their whole organisation's interaction with customers, to build out a holistic customer experience strategy that focuses on every element of the business (from an invoice to email workflows in both the digital and physical realm). Having focused on customer centric practices her whole career, she sees the benefit of providing value to the customer above 'selling' to the customer. Having multi-disciplinary qualifications (degree in social sciences, diplomas in design and photography, certificates in management and design thinking, topped off with a Masters of Teaching) Sam has been sharing her passion for innovative frameworks that connect businesses with customers, to her clients and General Assembly students (and anyone who'll listen to her!) for the last three years.
Phil, the former Global Director of Customer Experience for Nokia and Global Head of Brand Architecture for Nokia Siemens Networks has extensive expertise in building brands, brand experience and integrated marketing campaigns. Phil and Sam both recognised the need to take a more holistic approach to building a relationship with a customer and by combining their experience, they could offer businesses an opportunity to make more impact by coordinating their efforts in sales, marketing, brand, customer experience, culture, and IT (departments that could often work in silos) and ensuring their efforts were customer-centred.
Sam has designed a course for LaunchVic that will be accessible to all startups in the state and will provide them with a chance to practically apply what they learn to their specific business. Utilising her knowledge of modern teaching practices, the course moves away from the traditional 'chalk and talk' teaching. This course will appeal to those that have little time away from their demanding work schedules and need results and learnings that can be applied quickly. The course is designed to teach the thinking skills necessary to make quick decisions based on available data and structured objectives, enabling founders to use these skills continuously throughout their career, not just in building a marketing strategy for today.
Phil has been a passionate member of the Victorian startup ecosystem since the beginning, having also co-founded Entrepreneurs&Co. (a social enterprise whose purpose is to provide a collaborative and inclusive community to enable entrepreneurs to achieve success in Australia and link them to capital, investors, customers and associated alliance partners) and as pitch mentor to contestants in Startup Vic's monthly pitch competitions. Phil will be an active mentor to the startups participating in the Marketing Entourage course and during the Regional Roadshow and workshops scheduled for later in the year.
Phil talks about how to build a brand customers love at a Regional Workshop in Swan Hill
What they hope, is that the founders that participate in the course are able to quickly implement what they learn and start to see a difference in their results (much as their clients have over the years), thus encouraging more people in the state to find innovative solutions or address unmet needs and provide value to the people they serve, which will ultimately benefit us all.
More information about the course and signup dates will be released over the coming months with confirmation of dates and venues for the Regional Roadshow. Sign up for updates here
We look forward to helping you make an impact in 2018!
